Susan Burns, MA, LMHC

Susan Burns, MA, LMHC, NBCCH (www. feelingwhole.com) is a Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist and Breath Therapist with a practice in individual and family counseling. She has been in private practice for 15 years. Prior to developing her private practice, Susan was a special educator, as well as a health and wellness consultant. Some of her practice has been devoted to learning and social issues in both adults and children. She takes a holistic approach to individual and relationship counseling integrating mind/body technologies with traditional therapy.

Susan's unique background with family systems and non-traditional therapies has resulted in an integrated approach that begins with clarifying and meeting client needs and goals to design a guided process of self empowerment, informed by the client(s), for the client(s). This work can happen in the following contexts: one-on-one, couples, families, and group. Susan's unique skills with process-oriented counseling, expressive therapies, and energetic release provide for creative, client-centered counseling.

Susan' s own unique journey has involved difficult life transitions and depth psychological work. She has explored both traditional and complementary, alternative therapies as a participant and clinician. For example, her training in hypnotherapy has involved not only a regular certification training but an intensive two year residential training for mental health counselors, which enables to work clinically with great depth. This approach and other types of experiential therapies that integrate clinical knowledge with practical skills have led her to emphasize experiential learning with self education. She has deep respect for adjusting to the rhythm of a client's process.

Susan is the WA State representative for the Institute of Noetic Sciences and coordinates several Seattle community groups. She is also on the professional advisory board of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder) and is a member of LDA (Learning Disabilities Association of WA). Susan is a member of the Seattle Counselors Association, the American Counseling Association, The Association of Humanistic Psychology, and the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists.
