But there is another part to your mind which you
possibly are unaware of--this is your subconscious. It is the real you beyond
the ego and it is the real manager of your actions through its desires, which
often remain hidden from the conscious mind. Getting to know the subconscious mind is getting to know your true self. The subconscious mind is the driver behind all decisions. Though the conscious mind thinks it makes and carries out plans, it needs the agreement of the subconscious. The energy for action comes form the subconscious mind. The conscious mind can exercise will power but if the subconscious does not agree, actions will not be strong. Our subconscious mind acts the way it has been taught through our life experiences. The subconscious mind accepts information at a very early age and believes what the conscious mind tells it. Many of the negative messages, you received as a child , became programmed into your subconscious mind. If the conscious mind changes an opinion after attitudes have been programmed into the subconscious, the subconscious will not change with it. The early mind develops with many misperceptions, accepting ideas that are false. When we are adults, we have a mix of beliefs that might be distorted or half true based on our experience of childhood. When we get to know our subconscious mind, we can consciously direct our activity toward the goals we desire. The subconscious mind has 6 functions:
